Untitled (15-22) - Anne Renaud
By ANNE RENAUD
Dimensions:
22cm x 27cm
Medium:
Acrylic on canvas
The artist:
Anne Renaud is a French painter. She lives and works in Paris.
She works with a range of natural figures and motifs borrowed from landscape and still life: fruit, plants, animals. These subjects are a pretext for bringing figures into conversation, with the idea of creating almost sculptural compositions, working with masses and solid forms that sit in the composition like fruit on a plate, weighing on each other, looking at each other and embracing. She makes few preparatory drawings before painting, at most a few quick sketches. The subsequent work on canvas is made up of numerous repentances. By dint of erasing and covering, new shapes emerge: a face, a smile, nostrils, a pair of buttocks. In this way, she sees her recent paintings as an attempt to create portraits, for it is the suggestion of a body and a presence that she seeks to recognize and bring out as the painting progresses, like a wink - funny, tender or erotic.
